Debutant director Sandeep Sunkad’s thriller film Shakhahaari, starring Rangayana Raghu, has received positive reviews, making it one of the few Kannada films to do so this year. The movie showcases Rangayana Raghu in a never-before-seen role, which he found challenging to portray. Shakhahaari is available on OTT platforms but only for overseas viewers. Starting from May 22, the film became available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK and US. Although there is no update on its release in India yet, considering the Blink release pattern, it is expected that Shakhahaari will be available to Indian audiences in a few days.
Shakhahaari weaves a tale around Subbanna Bhat (played by Rangayana Raghu), the owner of a modest eatery in his hometown. His eatery, also his home, operates on a fixed routine and menu. In his spare time, he steals a moment to catch a glimpse of a bus that passes by at a specific time each day, adding a touch of mystery to his character. However, Subbanna’s life takes a dramatic turn when he decides to shelter a fugitive, setting the stage for a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase. As Inspector Mallikarjun (portrayed by Gopalkrihna Deshpande) and his team of police officers relentlessly pursue the fugitive, the suspense builds. Will Subbanna manage to safeguard his hidden secret? The plot keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Despite the film’s overwhelmingly positive response, director Sandeep acknowledged that this did not result in a rise in audience attendance. In reality, the filmmaker stated that Shakhahaari did not break even by the conclusion of its theatrical run. Over a month ago, the director mentioned that the team was nearing finalizing post-theatrical agreements, ultimately leading them to profitability.
