Story:
The series depicts the journey of a team of eccentric lawyers as they tackle peculiar lawsuits for unconventional clients set in the fictional Patparganj District Court.
Performances:
Ravi Kishan’s exceptional delivery, comic timing, and emotional depth make him a standout in the show. Nidhi Bisht also shines, matching Ravi Kishan’s comedic prowess and sometimes even outshining him. After 12th Fail, Anant Vijay Joshi gives an impressive performance again, bringing humor to his role and making a seemingly forgettable character endearing. Naila Grewal convincingly portrays the audience’s perspective as an honest lawyer who gets a reality check but keeps fighting for her intentions. Rajendra Gupta, Yashpal Sharma, Tanvi Azmi, and others were apt and added value to their characters and series.
Analysis:
The series is evident in its intentions. It tries to show the severe issues and ongoing problems in the Indian legal system through humor through a narrative of eight episodes, each with a different case/scenario as a backdrop. It takes a bit longer to fully grasp the essence of this series in the initial two episodes. Each character’s introduction is in slow motion, hinting that their storylines are the central focus despite their similarities. The sitcom structure presents various scenarios, some familiar and some new, that provoke laughter and excitement. The creators, particularly writers Saurabh Khanna and Kunal Aneja, skillfully portray the human side of lawyers, highlighting their struggles in seeking justice even in seemingly trivial situations. It is undeniable that the earnestness displayed by each character is relatable and expected, considering the setting in Patparganj, located just on the outskirts of the capital city of Delhi.
Positives:
The entertainment in the series is intact all along because of the continuous humor, defined by clever one-liners and impeccably timed jokes. The show’s central concept has been thoroughly researched, and including actual news clippings at the end of each episode enhances its authenticity. Natural performances from all the cast and a beautiful blend of fun and emotions work for most of the part in the series.
Negatives:
Sometimes, the storytelling slows down, especially when portraying VD Tyagi’s personal life. The excessive focus on melodrama occasionally undermines the otherwise humorous atmosphere of the series. A couple of characters could have been used better. The character of Phorey, played by Yashpal Sharma, could have been incredibly effective.
