This week, a limited selection of Kannada original or dubbed content is available in theaters or on OTT platforms. Among the releases, one film available on OTT with Kannada audio is the dubbed version of the 2019 movie Bakrid, starring Vikranth. The Kannada dubbed version of this Tamil film will be released on Namma Flix on April 26th.
Jagadeesan Subu, the writer and director of Bakrid, presents a heartfelt story centered around Rathnam, a farmer portrayed by Vikranth. Rathnam unexpectedly acquires a camel calf, which he and his family warmly embrace as a pet. However, as time passes, Rathnam comprehends that despite his immense affection, the camel is not suited to be a domesticated animal in Tamil Nadu. Determined to provide the camel with its rightful habitat, Rathnam embarks on a remarkable journey from Tamil Nadu to Rajasthan, where the camel can thrive in its natural environment. The movie focuses on Rathnam’s challenges as he attempts to transport the camel to its native desert environment. Critics and media coverage praised Vikranth’s portrayal of Rathnam as one of his most outstanding performances. Nevertheless, some critics noted that despite the commendable acting from both Vikranth and the trained camel playing Sara, viewers struggled to emotionally connect with their relationship, unlike the strong bond depicted between Rakshit Shetty’s Dharma and Charlie the dog in 777 Charlie or the connection between a young boy and a cheetah in Duma.
According to the makers, Bakrid is claimed to be the inaugural Indian movie to showcase a camel in a significant part. Vikranth reportedly dedicated a few months to familiarize himself with the camel, aiming to establish a sense of ease to facilitate the shooting process. The film also features Vasundhara, Rohith Pathak, Dinesh Prabhakar, Pasupathi Raj, and others.
