Y S Sharmila, the daughter of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had become the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). AICC president Mallikharjuna Kharge sent the appointment letter to Sharmila.
The Congress believes that Sharmila would be able to bring the party’s vote bank back to the party. The party lost its vote bank in 2014 to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and the party had become almost non-existent in the state for over a decade.
The Congress leaders from the state believe that they have lost everything, while the top leadership in Delhi has started looking for sources to get back its past glory. They found Sharmila as the right candidate to get its vote bank back to the party.
But the big question is will people accept Sharmila as the successor or heir of late Dr Rajasekhar Reddy? Will they say yes to Sharmila, when Jagan Mohan Reddy is also fighting for votes? Will people accept Jagan or Sharmila as the heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy?
The is no doubt that Sharmila is the heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy, but that is limited to the family. She is recognized as the daughter of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy and nothing more than that. The political mantel will not be given to her as the Congress leaders except.
The political succession is given Jagan Mohan Reddy and there is no change in that. Even if Dr Rajasekhar Reddy’s widow Vijayamma enters the Congress, she will not be accepted as the heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy in politics.
People in Andhra Pradesh have accepted Jagan Mohan Reddy as the political heir to Dr Rajasekhar Reddy. The mantel that was given to him in the 2019 general elections was history for itself. No political party had secured those numbers.
Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to win the 2024 general election once again and prove that he is the heir of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy and not anyone. The Congress may not get the support that it was expecting from Sharmila. Political dramas have less impact among the people as they are aware of any drama!
