BJP AP unit president Daggubati Purandheswari had been targeting the YSR Congress government in Andhra Pradesh headed by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. After she assumed charge as the president of the AP unit, she had been active in criticising the government.
Her criticism of the government increased when TDP chief and her brother-in-law Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the state CID in the skill development case. She had become more emotional with the arrest.
Purandheswari seems to have kept the political interests aside and took up the family interests. Though she and her husband have made several allegations against Chandrababu Naidu in the past, she is now only concerned about Naidu’s welfare and the TDP’s growth in the state.
The national leadership of the BJP is supporting Jagan Mohan Reddy in all cases, as they need his support in Rajya Sabha. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress has 10 MPs in the upper house against the state’s total of 11 members.
The YSR Congress is the fifth largest party in Rajya Sabha after BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress, AAP, and DMK. The party’s support is a must for the Congress to win any bills in the upper house and thus they have a good understanding with the YSR Congress.
However, Purandheswari is ignorant of this political compulsion that the party top leadership is locked with the YSR Congress. She seems to be more interested in her family members and their welfare, whichever party they are in.
She is currently running the BJP unit in Andhra Pradesh in favour of TDP and Chandrababu Naidu. The BJP is now serving the political interests of the TDP ahead of the 2024 general election. Her work in the party is not going to help the BJP in the coming elections. Rather it would be of great help to the opposition TDP.
It is to be seen if the party top leadership would allow her to continue as party State unit president or would replace her as elections are fast approaching. Any political party will have its own political interests and would never work for another party, as Purandheswari is doing now!
