It is widely known that Bollywood’s prominent director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, entered the digital world with the Heeramandi Web Series. Richa Chadha, renowned for her role in Gangs Of Wasseypur, encountered a hurdle while filming a scene for the highly-discussed Netflix web series Heeramandi. The task at hand was to depict drunken dancing convincingly. To immerse herself in the character, she initially experimented with consuming gin. However, this approach proved ineffective as the alcohol hindered her movements rather than enhancing her performance, resulting in a forced portrayal.
Richa, who abstains from alcohol in her personal life, experimented with it to capture the right atmosphere for the scene. However, she soon realized that it was not enhancing her performance. Richa recently recounted her experience working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. She mentioned, “Initially, I struggled to portray the drunken dance convincingly. After numerous attempts, I resorted to having a small amount of gin, hoping it would improve my performance. Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. Rather than enhancing my movements, it made them appear sluggish; I aimed to maintain a sense of gracefulness instead.”
Over time, she realized she could effectively depict intoxication without consuming alcohol. Richa elaborated that her upbringing allowed her to authentically embody the character’s condition without the need for alcohol. Despite the initial challenges, Heeramandi is now thriving on Netflix, ranking at the top worldwide. The Web Series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and many more in pivotal roles, a testament to the resilience and talent of the team.
