Petition against govt shifting to Visakha posted to Friday

The AP high court on Wednesday posted a petition filed in the court against the government shifting offices to Visakhapatnam. Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi managing trustee Gadde Tirupathi Rao, farmers Madala Srinivasa Rao and Valaparla Manoharam filed the petition in the court opposing the shifting.

They alleged that the high court had already declared Amaravati as the capital of the state and had asked the state government to complete the construction of the capital in three months. While works on Amaravati capital were not started yet, they said that the government was planning to shift the departments to Visakhapatnam.

Arguing for the state government, advocate general Sriram told the court that the petition has no value to be heard in the court. He felt that the petition should have come as public interest litigation and not as a petition.

He said that the government had issued a GO 2283 on November 22 directing the officials to shift to Visakhapatnam. The government had formed a committee of the senior officials to identify the space for the government offices.

Accordingly, the officials have identified the space and made allocation to various departments. The officials are currently shifting their base to Visakhapatnam, the advocate general told the court.
The GO was required as the chief minister and the other ministes were planning to hold review meetings in Visakhapatnam for the development of the North Andhra region. He told the court that the north Andhra region is a backward region and it required special attention from the government for its development.

The chief minister and other ministers would be camping in the region at least for two to three days a week and hence the administration is required to be shifted there.
