Pension increased to Rs 3000 from January 1 in AP

The state government has increased the old age pension to Rs 3,000 per month from January 1, 2024. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced the increase and the state cabinet had also approved the proposal.

The government is now paying Rs 2,750 per month now as old age pension. Jagan Mohan Reddy had announced to increase the pension to Rs 3000 during the 2019 general election. Accordingly, the government increased the pension to Rs 2,250 and then to Rs 2,500 and finally to Rs 2,750 per month in the last four years.

The increase of pension is one of the promises of Jagan Mohan Reddy to the people during the 2019 general election. He had thus fulfilled the promises and is going for the next round of general election with 98 per cent fulfilment of the promises.

The chief minister said that the government is spending Rs 1950 crore on pensions from just Rs 400 crore during the previous TDP regime. The number of pensioners too had gone up to 66,34,742 persons per month. The government is spending over Rs 23,000 crore per year, the chief minister said.

The state government is also planning to get the videos done on the success of the pension scheme. The best video makers would be rewarded with cash prize of Rs 10,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 at village, mandal, constituency and district levels respectively, he said, adding that the best volunteers would also be presented with Seva Mitra, Seva Ratna and Seva Vajra awards on Feb 15-16.

The state government has so far spent Rs 19,195crore and Rs 14,129crore for YSR Aasara and YSR Cheyuta respectively and awareness campaign should be undertaken on how these programmes have successfully transformed the lives of beneficiaries, he said.
