YSRCP raises concerns over Observer’s biased conduct in the AP elections

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has filed a formal complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner concerning the biased conduct of the Special Police Observer in the Andhra Pradesh Elections. In a letter written by Lella Appi Reddy, the State General Secretary, grave concerns were raised regarding the actions of Deepak Mishra, IPS, Retd, who was appointed as the Special Police Observer for the 2024 General Election of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and House of Parliament.

The letter highlighted several incidents indicating a clear bias towards the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and a disregard for neutrality and fairness in the electoral process, posing a threat to its integrity. It was noted that since the arrival of the Special Police Observer in the state, multiple complaints have been lodged by both the YSRCP and TDP. However, district police chiefs have consistently favored TDP’s complaints, while neglecting those submitted by the YSRCP, even responding sarcastically to YSRCP representatives.

Furthermore, implicit instructions and actions have led TDP activists to believe they have assurances from the police, resulting in compromised law enforcement during polling and post-polling, leading to law and order issues. These actions suggest that Deepak Mishra, IPS., Retd, may be favoring the Telugu Desam Party at the behest of Sri Vishnu Vardhan Rao, IPS., Retd, who is associated with TDP.

The YSRCP stressed its commitment to democratic principles and a level playing field, expecting neutrality from the administration and executive wing. However, the biased actions of Special Police Observer Sri Deepak Mishra undermine the fundamental principles of free and fair elections as outlined by the Election Commission of India, leading to incidents of mismanagement and partisan behavior in Andhra Pradesh.

In light of these concerns, the YSRCP urged the Election Commission to promptly appoint a new Special Police Observer known for honesty and integrity, to ensure a level playing field for all parties involved.
