Mangalagiri MLA quits Assembly, party too

Mangalagiri MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy had sent his resignation to the Assembly seat and the ruling YSR Congress on Monday. He went to the Speaker’s chamber in the Assembly and submitted a one sentence resignation to the office.

He told the media persons that he would also speak to Speaker Thammineni Sitaram and seek acceptance of his resignation. He told the media that his resignation was personal and has no political reasons.

Ramakrishna Reddy also told the media that he had come to active politics in 1995 and worked for the party. He also worked under the leadership of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. He said that he aspired for Sathenapalli Assembly seat ticket in 2004 and Pedakurapadu seat in 2009. However, both the times he was denied the ticket.

After Dr Rajasekhar Reddy’s death in 2009, he said he moved along with chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said that the YSR Congress had given him ticket in 2014 and 2019 from Mangalagiri Assembly constituency. He won both the elections, he said and thanked Jagan Mohan Reddy for the ticket.

Meanwhile, Assembly speaker Sitaram told media persons that his office had received the resignation of Ramakrishna Reddy. He said he would speak to the MLA and then decide. “Giving resignation letter does not mean I have to accept it. I will go through it and take a decision,” the speaker told the media persons.

Another YSR Congress leader Tippala Devan Reddy from Gajuwaka Assembly constituency also quit the party. He had been the incharge of the Gajuwaka Assembly constituency for some years. He submitted his resignation to the party office at Tadepalli.

The party also nominated Minister for Industries Gudivada Amarnath as incharge of the Gajuwaka Assembly constituency. The party also named BC leader Ganji Chiranjeevi as the party incharge for Mangalagiri Assembly constituency.
