Andhra Pradesh had decided to take up caste-based census for the first time after 92 years. The programme would start in the third week of November.
Andhra Pradesh would be the second state in the country to take up caste-based census. It was Bihar that had taken up the caste0-based census earlier this year.
The state cabinet, which met at Velagapudi on Friday took the decision to start caste-based census in the state. The decision was taken to make an assessment of the socio-economic and other welfare programmes and the benefits that these sections are receiving from the state government.
Minister for Information and Public Relations, Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna told media persons that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is very particular on having the caste-based census in the state. He said that the chief minister wants to know the strength of the backward classes and other weaker sections in the state.
The chief minister wants to take the empowerment programme to the next level once the census is ready. The chief minister would have the information on hand to roll out more welfare initiatives by the government, the minister said.
The Cabinet has ratified the SIPB’s approval of fresh investments worth Rs 19,037crore that would provide employment opportunities to 69,565 persons,
Apart that, it has decided to implement new land allotment policy for setting up industries, allot 5400 acres of land for Ecoren Energy India Ltd to establish 902 MW solar energy plants in Nandyala and YSR districts and make an additional allotment of 2 acres of land to MRK Group to establish hotels in Tirupati district.
The Cabinet has also agreed to the proposal of establishing 800 MW wind energy plant and allot another 100 acres of land to establish National Law University in Kurnool district.
