State Industries, Infrastructure, Investment, Commerce and Information Technology Minister Gudivada Amarnath said the Andhra Pradesh government is committed to promoting technical textiles of national and international scope. As part of the “National Technical Textiles Mission” of the Government of India, the State Handloom and Textiles Department on Monday organized a one-day conference in Vijayawada on the main theme of formulating policy lines for the development of technical textiles at the national level.
Amarnath, who was the chief guest at the event, said that permissions will be granted in a single window system by providing concessions like no other state in the country has done for the development of the industrial sector. There is no dearth of land required for setting up industries. We are ready to provide the necessary incentives for the development of the technical textiles sector in the state. He said foreign investment is essential for industrial development and the Centre should be more flexible in this regard. Amarnath also suggested to the central government that changes need to be made in export policies as well.
Rajiv Saxena, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, said the technical textiles sector will play a key role in the development of the country in the coming years. However, he said that efforts are being made to create more awareness on the sector and encourage entrepreneurs. There is a need for skilled manpower in this sector. There is no dearth of funds for the development of the technical textile industry and rs 1,000 crore has been allocated only for research,” he said. We are focusing on developing machinery at a very low cost. Special attention is being taken for market development, promotion of exports and start-ups. Ug and PG courses in the technical textiles sector will be designed to attract the youth in this field.
Principal Secretary of Handloom and Textile Department, Sunitha said that the waste can be efficiently utilized through the agricultural technical textile sector. she said that aqua is a big consumer of technical textile and the demand from this sector will be significant. Agro tech Textiles contributes to sustainable agriculture, resource efficiency and waste reduction. she said that while AP is mainly agriculture-based, the net area (including fish farming) is 60.88 lakh acres with 37.35 per cent of the land. Studies show that Agro-textiles in horticulture increase crop production, reduce water consumption by 30 to 45 percent, and reduce fertilizer use by 25 to 30 percent.
In the country, Andhra Pradesh is ranked 1st in banana production and 5th in jute production and there are many opportunities to bring agricultural waste into the textile value addition chain, Sunitha said. The future of technical textiles looks promising, with the global market expected to grow from $195 billion in 2022 to $351 billion by 2032. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5% from 2023 to 2032. In the last five years, the market has grown at the rate of 8-10 percent per annum, and in the next five years, we have a target of 15-20 percent.
Avinash Misar, president of the Indian Textile Association, said that the technical textiles sector will make progress with the formulation of comprehensive procedures. There is no dearth of marketing if technical textile products can be brought in in accordance with national and international regulations and laws. Avinash explained that this is an area where there is a good future internationally. Delivering the inaugural address on the occasion, M M Naik, Commissioner, Department of Handlooms and Textiles, said that efforts are being made to create awareness about this sector which is completely different from the normal textile industry. Technical textiles will play a key role in 17 sectors including medical, agriculture and other sectors. We are focussing on building infrastructure suitable to the environment of Andhra Pradesh through economy strategies and Geotech textiles. Key issues such as identifying future trends and opportunities in the technical textiles sector will be discussed in the meeting and suitable proposals will be prepared. Naik explained that the conference has become a platform for mutual knowledge exchange.
Noted industrialist Ajay Shiroshi said that Andhra Pradesh’s response in promoting entrepreneurs has been good. Entrepreneurs should move forward with full understanding of the sector. The panel discussions were held with close scrutiny as the Andhra Pradesh Handloom and Textiles Department took a special initiative in organizing the programme by providing continuous support to the Indian Technical Textiles Association. The panel speakers were served by industry personalities from across the country. CEOs of various organizations, textile manufacturers, engineers, designers, policy makers and representatives of the government participated in the conference in large numbers. The innovative exhibition showcased useful products made from banana fibre, jute, wool, and other agricultural waste.
