The BJP in Telangana is leaving no stone unturned to wrest the power from the ruling BRS in the November 30 election. The BJP leaders are running from pillar to post to woo the voters ahead of the general election.
In one such attempt, Telangana BJP president and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy was present when TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh met Amit Shah in Delhi on Wednesday evening. Lokesh is from Andhra Pradesh and his party’s presence is mostly limited to Andhra Pradesh.
What was the reason for Kishan Reddy to present in the meeting, is the question now. There are considerable number of Kamma voters from Telangana. They have their presence in at least 40 Assembly seats, 20 of them are very strong.
These Kammas in Telangana are not happy with the BRS for its reaction to the arrest of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh. BRS leader, second in command, K T Rama Rao, had said that the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu has nothing to do with Telangana. He had even directed the police to stop protests by some IT employees against the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu.
This statement of KTR had led the Kammas to turn against the BRS ahead of the election. They are moving slowly towards the Congress, as the BJP is not in a position to win the election. The BJP is looking at the Kamma voters and its leaders as potential candidates for the party in the days to come.
The BJP sees that the Kammas would have to land in the BJP, once the TDP disappears from the political scene in Andhra Pradesh. But, against this feeling, the Kammas have started moving towards the Congress, much to its advantage.
A delegation of Kammas have also met the Congress leaders and have submitted a report indicating their presence in the 40 Assembly constituencies. This had made the BJP leadership understand the strength of the Kamma voters in Telangana.
Interestingly, the Kammas in Telangana are organized under the banners of Kamma Sangham and Kakatiya Sangham. Thus, the BJP realized the changing politics and had made Kishan Reddy to be present when Lokesh met Shah in Delhi.
The BJP leadership thought that this photo session would help them reap the Kamma votes in the coming general elections. It is to be seen if the BJP would get the advantage or not.
