The Gujarati supernatural horror thriller Vash, helmed by Krishnadev Yagnik, has been adapted into the recent Hindi film Shaitaan and will soon be available on OTT platforms. Initially released in cinemas in February 2023, the streaming release was delayed due to an agreement between the Shaitaan team and Shemaroo, the rights holder, to wait until after the Hindi version’s theatrical run. With just a few shows left in select cities, Shaitaan’s theatrical run is nearing its conclusion, making way for its arrival on OTT platforms. Vash will premiere on April 26th.
Last year in May, reports indicated that the producers of Shaitaan had successfully agreed with the Vash and Shemaroo team to postpone any streaming intentions. Under this arrangement, the original movie was strictly prohibited from being uploaded on YouTube to deter viewers from accessing it. Interestingly, the creators of Salaar, a Telugu film from last year, had also adopted a comparable tactic by eliminating nearly all versions of the Kannada original Ugramm from different streaming platforms. The film Vash features a talented cast, including Hitu Kanodia, Niilam Paanchal, Hiten Kumar, Janki Bodiwala, and Aaryan Sanghvi. It revolves around Atharva (played by Hitu), his wife Beena (played by Niilam), and their children Aarya and Ansh (portrayed by Janki and Aaryan). Their lives turn dark when they encounter a mysterious individual named Pratap (played by Hiten), who initially offers assistance but harbors malicious intentions for them.
Ajay Devn portrayed Hitu in the Hindi version, with Jyotika returning to Hindi cinema as his wife and Janki Bodiwala reprising her role from the original. In contrast to the original, which garnered mostly positive reviews, the Hindi adaptation received a mixed response upon its release, yet it proved profitable. Shaitaan will be accessible on Netflix once it starts streaming. Vash will be available on OTTplay Premium beginning April 26 through a subscription to the Nasha monthly pack.
