Neninthe: A Glimpse into Cinematic Brilliance – Nostalgia

When we think of Ravi Teja and Puri Jagannadh combination films, the first blockbusters that come to mind are “Itlu Sravani Subrahmanyam,” “Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi,” and “Idiot.” In fact, director Puri Jagannadh played a significant role in making Ravi Teja the star he is today, known as Mass Maha Raja. On the occasion of Ravi Teja’s birthday, let’s delve into one of my favorite projects of his, a film under the direction of Puri Jagannadh—I call it a hidden gem, “Neninthe.”

“Neninthe” is a unique film that appeals to a specific section of movie lovers and those involved in the film industry. The incidents in the film closely mirror reality, depicting the lives of everyone from assistant directors to producers, heroines, distributors, and fans. The film showcases the true nature of cinema, illustrating the wonders it can create if everything falls into place, while also shedding light on the struggles within the industry.

In the film, Ravi Teja plays Ravi Kumar, whose aspiration is to become a director. His dream eventually comes true after working as an assistant director. The characterization of Ravi Teja’s role is terrifically designed by the director, and his performance is considered one of the best in his career. It encompasses various shades, including struggles and the capacity to withstand difficulties faced in the industry. Ravi Teja’s unique comedy timing adds a touch of sarcasm to the film. Notable scenes include the carrom board scene where Ravi Teja explains cinema culture and the intense interval scene revealing the film’s title, “Neninthe.” The climax emphasizes Ravi Teja’s unwavering dedication to cinema.

One of my most favorite scenes from the film is Ravi Teja’s character getting confronted by local goons while fetching medicines for his mother. The way Ravi Teja performed in the scene, where he patiently listens to the goons’ rantings and replies intensely, hiding his anger in his heart and showcasing it outside in the form of a warning by unleashing the beast within him. He shows a sample by hurting himself and states that if he gets irritated, he is ready to kill himself. So, if someone triggers him, he can eliminate the goon within seconds. However, he mentions that for them, this might be their only job, but he has other responsibilities. He requests them not to focus on him, or else he will have to concentrate on them. The surprising moment occurs when the antagonist himself gets surprised by Ravi Teja’s behavior in this scene.

The Telugu dialogue from Ravi Teja in this scene is as follows: ‘నాకు చీరకు దొబ్బితే నన్ను నేనే కోసుకోవడానికీ వెనకాడ్ను కన్ను మూసి తెరిచేలోపు పొడిచి పాడుదొబ్బుతా నీకు ఇదే పని నాకు వేరే పని ఉంది, నువ్వు నా మీద concentrate చెయ్యకు. నేను మీ అందరి మీద concentrate చేయవలసి వస్తుంది.’

“Neninthe” also provides material for meme creators, with hilarious scenes featuring Brahmanandam and Venu Madhav relating to current trending topics and happenings in the film industry. Scenes where fans express disappointment with the film within the film are also relatable to current flop films.

The film’s energetic songs, composed by Music Director Chakri, add another layer to its magic. The item number “Puduthune Uyyala” featuring Mumaith Khan, romantic song “Nuvantene Pichchi,” and the melody “Oh I miss you” featuring Ravi Teja and Siya contribute to the film’s overall appeal. The song “Krishna Nagarey” beautifully showcases the beauty of the film industry.

While “Neninthe” may have fared average at the box office, it stands out as one of the most talked-about and best films in Ravi Teja’s career, showcasing various facets of characterizations. Wishing Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja many more happy returns of the day and all the best for his upcoming films.
