“It’s least to say, a tiresome experience”
The film commences in the year 1973, as the protagonist’s mother delves into spider research. The narrative then shifts to the present day, introducing Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Web, an FDNY officer. Cassie discovers her ability to predict the future and engages with teenagers to thwart the antagonist. Despite an intriguing storyline, the drama falls flat, and the teens struggle to foster camaraderie. Dakota Johnson strives to hold our attention.
The antagonist’s characterization is perplexing; in attempting to outrun destiny, he succumbs to traps, resulting in lackluster scenes.
The overall verdict: “Madame Webb” serves as a buildup to characterizations, with powers unleashed towards the end in a somewhat tedious journey.
Comparatively, “Morbius” fares better. The future of the franchise remains uncertain for Sony after two consecutive disappointments following the success of “Venom 1 and 2.”
