Bollywood star Aamir Khan’s upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is the Hindi remake of the Spanish film, Campeones (2018). While the release date of Aamir’s film is expected to be announced soon, the viewers can watch the English version of the same. Champions, the 2023-released comedy drama, is the Hollywood remake of Campeones, and it is now available on Netflix. The film is based on the screenplay written by Mark Rizzo, and it also marks the directorial debut of Bobby Farrelly.
The film tells the story of a minor league basketball coach who gets appointed to lead a squad of intellectually disabled players. The narration of the film has humorous elements along with emotional touch, which follows the journey of a former basketball coach who is ordered by the court to guide the team of players who have intellectual disabilities. Though he is reluctant to take up the job at first, he learns that the team is capable of winning. Woody Harrelson, Cheech Marin, Ernie Hudson, and Kaitlin Olson are part of the film’s cast.
Though the film received mixed reviews, Champions went on to score $19 million at the box office. The original version, Campeones, was written and directed by Javier Fesser, while David Marques wrote the screenplay. The film won Spain’s Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 91st Academy Awards. Aamir Khan announced Sitaare Zameen Par in February 2024. So if you want to watch the English version before the Hindi film arrives, you can stream it on Netflix.
