AP Speaker issues notices to YCP, TDP MLAs

The AP Assembly speaker Thammineni Sitaram had issued notices to ruling YSR Congress and opposition TDP MLAs on disqualification issue.

It may mention here that the YSR Congress had written a letter to the speaker seeking disqualification of its MLAs who were suspended from the party. The party said that MLAs Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Mekapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Undavalli Sridevi were suspended from the party. They were alleged of voting for the TDP in the recent MLC elections, where the TDP candidate had won the election.

The YSR Congress requested the speaker to consider the disqualification of these MLAs ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state which are due in March this year. Three vacancies are coming in April with the retirement of YSR Congress member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, BJP member C M Ramesh and TDP member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar. All these three members are schedule to retire on April 3, 2024.

Meanwhile, the TDP had also written to the speaker seeking disqualification of its MLAs. The party said that Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy, Maddali Giridhar, Vallabhaneni Vamasi Mohan and Vasupalli Ganesh, who were elected on the TDP ticket were now associated with the ruling YSR Congress. The TDP wanted the speaker to disqualify these members from the Assembly.

Based on the two letters that he had received, the speaker had issued notices to all these MLAs. He wanted these MLAs to reply in seven days failing which he would take action as per the law. He also wanted these MLAs to justify their action or else be ready for disqualification.

It is to be seen what these MLAs would reply to the speaker in the given time.
