Prime Video India has announced the world premiere of their original movie, Ae Watan Mere Watan, starring Sara Ali Khan in the lead role. The film is set to begin streaming on the OTT platform on March 21, coinciding with World Radio Day.
Inspired by real-life events, Ae Watan Mere Watan is a fictional tale that revolves around an underground radio station that played a pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle during the British Raj. The film draws inspiration from the story of Usha Mehta, a real-life freedom fighter who ran a clandestine radio channel to mobilize the masses against British rule.
Sara Ali Khan took to her Instagram to share the news, expressing her excitement for the film’s release. She plays the character of Usha, a woman who runs the underground radio station, in the historical thriller. The film will stream in Hindi and will be available with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, making it accessible to a wider audience.
Directed by Kannan Iyer and written by Darab Farooqui and Iyer, Ae Watan Mere Watan also features Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O’ Neil, and Anand Tiwari in pivotal roles, with a special guest appearance by Emraan Hashmi. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharmatic Entertainment Production.
Karan Johar, in a press note about the film, highlighted the significance of radio in India’s independence movement, stating that Ae Watan Mere Watan pays homage to the role of radio in uniting the country and fueling the fire in every Indian’s heart, further emboldening the Quit India Movement. Johar expressed his excitement for the film, describing it as a dream in the making.
As the world awaits the premiere of Ae Watan Mere Watan on Prime Video, the film promises to be a compelling tribute to the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle and a celebration of the spirit of patriotism that defines the nation.
