X-Men fans, rejoice! The beloved animated series X-Men ’97 is gearing up for its second season, and it sounds like we’re in for another thrilling ride through the mutant universe.Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of television, recently dropped some exciting tidbits about the upcoming season on The Official Marvel Podcast. According to Winderbaum, the creative team is “well on [their] way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season.” He’s already seen the animatics, and promises that the emotional rollercoaster we experienced in season one will continue “in a very X-Men fashion” in season two.Remember that jaw-dropping season one finale? It left us with our favorite mutants scattered across time, from ancient Egypt to a dystopian future. And let’s not forget that tantalizing mid-credit scene with Apocalypse in Genosha.
It seems the stage is set for some epic storylines in season two, potentially drawing from classic comic arcs like Age of Apocalypse, The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, and Rise of Apocalypse.Now, the burning question on every fan’s mind: when will we get to see season two? While animation typically requires a longer production time, there’s hope we might not have to wait too long. Work on the second season reportedly began shortly after the first wrapped up, and given the show’s massive success, it’s likely a top priority for Marvel and Disney+.Optimistically, we could see X-Men ’97 return as early as 2025. There are a couple of potential release windows that would fit nicely between upcoming Marvel cinematic releases. Could it be Marvel’s big holiday treat for 2025? Only time will tell!
It’s worth noting that there have been some changes behind the scenes. Original showrunner Beau De Mayo and story editor Charley Feldman are not involved in season two’s development.
