The Congress top leadership had finally come to a conclusion and named TPCC president A Revanth Reddy as the chief minister of the state. AICC general secretary Venugopal made this announcement at the AICC headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday evening.
Revanth Reddy would take the oath of office on December 7 at 10.28 in the morning in Raj Bhavan. Venugopal further said that the other details would be made known in the next two days. He further said that the Congress would start implementing the promises given to the people of Telangana.
Venugopal also said that it would be a team of Congress that would be in power in Telangana. All senior leaders would be recognized and honoured accordingly, he said.
Revanth Reddy would be the 14th chief minister of the state led by the Congress before bifurcation of the State. He would also be the second chief minister of the state after K Chandrasekhar Rao.
There were brainstorming talks held within the Congress before finalising the name of Revanth Reddy. Party senior leaders like Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Komatireddy Venata Reddy, Damodara Rajanarasimha, N Uttam Kumar Reddy have raised objections to the AICC proposal to name Revanth Reddy as the chief minister.
The Congress leaders first proposed Bhatti as the chief minister and Revanth Reddy as the deputy chief minister. This was the formula that the Congress leadership settled the issue in neighbouring Karnataka state.
However, Revanth Reddy did not accept this formula and insisted upon the party leadership making him the chief minister.
People in Telangana know it was Revanth Reddy who steered the party to victory in the just-concluded general election to the state assembly. If he is denied of the chief minister post, the Congress leadership is worried about the revolt expected in the party and hence finally cleared his name.
