Even before joining the Congress or merging her party with the Congress, YSRTP president Y S Sharmila is having stiff opposition from Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy. Though she did not contest the Telangana Assembly elections and had extended her support to the Congress, she was not invited for the swearing-in ceremony of Revanth Reddy.
Revanth Reddy had invited everyone, right from Andhra Pradesh chief minister to his predecessor, but not Sharmila. There was a big list of the guests invited by Revanth Reddy, some of them from the neighbouring Karnataka state, but Sharmila had no invitation.
Revanth Reddy had been opposing the entry of Sharmila into the party right from the beginning. She was originally scheduled to merge her party with the Congress before the Assembly elections in Telangana.
However, he prevailed upon the party high command to delay it so that her joining would not be an issue for the BRS. He told the high command that she would be branded as Andhra leader and that would help the BRS to raise the Telangana sentiments and get some votes.
Now, even after the elections and Revanth Reddy becoming the chief minister, his opposition to Sharmila’s entry into the party is not ended. He continues to oppose her into the party and argue that she is an Andhra leader.
But quite interestingly, Sharmila is not claiming to be the Andhra leader. She is not interested in coming to Andhra Pradesh and do her type of politics. She doesn’t want to disturb the electoral prospects of her brother and AP chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Her soft approach towards Andhra Pradesh chief minister is also being used by Revanth Reddy to oppose her entry into the Congress. He says that Sharmila doesn’t want to disturb her brother but would disturb the prospects of Telangana leaders.
It is to be seen how both Revanth Reddy and Sharmila would go together in the Congress Party once she joins. At some point of time, she would have to work with the Telangana chief minister or Revanth Reddy would have to work with Shamila as they both sail in the same party!
