Maa Nanna Superhero Review

Story:

Jani (Sudheer Babu) is the son of Prakash (Sai Chand). Because of his financial condition, Prakash handovers his son to an orphanage and promises to return in a few days. However, he gets sentenced for over 20 years in an unexpected situation and loses contact with his son. Jani is picked up by Srinivas (Sayaji Shinde) but it is shown that he hates Jani and holds him responsible for the ups and downs and losses in his life. Will Jani be able to win the love of his adopted father? Will Prakash’s dream of finding his son turn out to be true? The answers to these questions form the rest of the story.

Performances:

Sudheer Babu was good and tried to get into the skin of the character. His efforts are visible in some crucial moments. Sayaji Shinde was decent, while Sai Chand performed exceptionally and added depth to the character. Aarna Vohra was just present for a few scenes and one song and there is nothing much to talk about her role. Sasank, Devi Prasad, Raju Sundaram, and Vishnu Oi were fine.

Analysis:

Abhilash Kankara, the writer and director of Maa Nanna Superhero tried to make a coming of age drama with a road trip angle attached to it. While he was successful in handling some crucial moments involving the father and son’s sentiment along with the climax, he could have done much better with the road trip. The latter half had so much scope to explore, but Abhilash just touched it on the surface.

Positives:

The performances from the lead trio were good and, as said above, Sai Chand was the best performer among the cast. The orphanage episode at the start, Pre-Interval, and climax parts worked well and brought the required poignant impact.

Negatives:

The director should have established all the three main characters effectively. Though the characters go through so many heated turns, audiences cannot feel for the proceedings and get confused about connecting with any character because of weak writing. The pace of the film is constantly lethargic. Of course, no one expects the film to be a racy thriller, but it goes beyond the patience levels and rises only on occasions.

Rating: 2.25/5

Last Line: Maa Nanna Superhero — A dull emotional drama with only a few good parts

Note:* It’s a personal opinion. It will not be based on it’s film run or the talk on the other side.
