Kesineni to quit TDP, MP post shortly

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) had made up his mind to quit the TDP and also his MP post shortly. He had decided to quit both the posts as the party had told him that it would not give the MP ticket to him in the coming elections.

He took to social media and announced that he would quit both the posts. “When the party decided that I am of no use, there is no point in me continuing in the party,” Kesineni said in his social media posts. He further said that he would visit Delhi shortly and submit his resignation to the MP post after meeting the Lok Sabha speaker.

The MP further said that he would also quit the TDP once his resignation is accepted by the speaker. Sources say that he had already communicated his intention to quit the party to some of his friends at the party and the in charges.

Sources close to the MP said that he had conveyed his feelings to former minister Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Nettem Raghuram, besides Machilipatnam former MP Konakalla Narayana Rao. He categorically told them that there is no point in his continuation in the TDP which doesn’t require his presence.

The party leadership had asked Kesineni to keep away from the party programme to be held in Tiruvuru on January 7. Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to address a public meeting in Tiruvuru, which is part of the Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency, which is represented by Kesineni.

The decision of the party had hurt Kesineni who decided to quit the party and find his own ways. Sources say that Kesineni is firm on having hattrick by winning the 2024 general election. He won two consecutive elections in 2014 and 2019.

Dr K L Rao is the only MP who had won the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat for three consecutive terms. Later, no one could beat his record. It was only Parvathaneni Upendra, Lagadapati Rajagopal and Kesineni are the three MPs who have won two consecutive elections.

While Upendra won in 1996 and 1998, Lagadapati won in 2004 and 2009. Kesineni won the election in 2014 and 2019. It is to be seen if he could make it for the third consecutive term and match Dr K L Rao’s record in the constituency.
