Kakuda: Riteish Deshmukh talks about his Digital Debut and OTT Platforms

Riteish Deshmukh is gearing up to mark his debut on the OTT platform soon. It is worth noting that the actor will be venturing into the digital space with a series named Pill and a film titled Kakuda, both of which are scheduled for release on 12th July 2024. While Pill will be available at Jio Cinema, Kakuda will be available on ZEE5. During a recent interview, the Tujhe Meri Kasam star shared his thoughts on his upcoming OTT debut. As Riteish prepares to step into the world of streaming with Pill and Kakuda, he reminisced about his initial foray into acting on the silver screen with Tujhe Meri Kasam, where he starred alongside Genelia D’Souza. Reflecting on his past, the actor admitted in an interview with DNA that he was unsure of his actions at that time, stating, “It was just a new energy; we did what we had to do.”

Riteish expressed his enthusiasm for his role in Pill, mentioning that he had eagerly awaited his debut on an OTT platform for quite some time. Despite his search for the perfect script and subject, he found the right opportunity once Ronnie (Screwala, producer) and Raj (Kumar Gupta, director) collaborated to create a remarkable duo. According to him, Pill is a groundbreaking show.

In the same interview, the actor also discussed the growth of OTT platforms and their enduring presence. He expressed that the OTT format will likely remain for a significant period, possibly indefinitely. According to him, digital platforms provide filmmakers with greater creative freedom, allowing them to develop content without time constraints. Additionally, the actor noted that stories can be more expansive, and creators do not have to worry about condensing the narrative. He highlighted the positive impact of OTT platforms on actors, stating that they are receiving more opportunities for meaningful work. In the meantime, Riteish Deshmukh’s upcoming show Pill will be available for streaming on Jio Cinema starting July 12. Furthermore, his film Kakuda, featuring Sonakshi Sinha and Saqib Saleem, will be released on ZEE5 on the same date.
