In a bid to expand its foldable smartphone lineup, Google is reportedly in the testing phase for its next-generation Pixel Fold device, tentatively named Pixel Fold 2. The upcoming device is rumored to feature significant upgrades, including the integration of Google’s latest Tensor G4 chipset and a substantial increase in RAM capacity.
According to reports from Android Authority, the Pixel Fold 2 is undergoing testing with the Tensor G4 chip, internally referred to as “zumapro.” This chipset marks a departure from the earlier prototypes, which were equipped with the Tensor G3. Additionally, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, scheduled for release in October, are also expected to utilize the Tensor G4 chipset.
The current prototypes of the Pixel Fold 2 reportedly boast 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, representing a notable enhancement over its predecessor, the Pixel Fold. This increase in RAM capacity is anticipated to accommodate several on-device AI features, enhancing the device’s performance and capabilities.
The Pixel Fold, introduced in May last year, marked Google’s entry into the foldable smartphone market. Priced at $1,799 for the base variant with 256GB storage, the device featured a book-style foldable design and was powered by Google’s Tensor G2 SoC.
Key specifications of the original Pixel Fold included a 7.6-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 5.8-inch full-HD+ OLED outer display, and a triple rear camera setup. The device also boasted a 4,821mAh battery with support for 30W charging and wireless charging.
