In 2023, Apple continued its dominance in the smartphone market by securing the top seven spots in the list of best-selling smartphones globally, according to Canalys. This marked a significant achievement for Apple, as it secured the top spots in order, with the iPhone 14 leading the pack. Despite being launched in 2022, the iPhone 14 accounted for 3.9% of all smartphone shipments globally in 2023, with the US and China contributing significantly to its sales. Following closely behind were the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 14 Pro, followed by the iPhone 13 from 2021.
Counterpoint’s data further emphasized Apple’s dominance, highlighting that the iPhone 15 Pro Max claimed the top spot in Q4, 2023, and secured fifth place overall for the year. The iPhone 15 Pro and vanilla iPhone 15 followed closely, taking the sixth and seventh spots, respectively. Samsung was the only other brand represented in the top ten, with its Galaxy A14 5G, A04e, and A14 4G devices occupying the last three spots.
Looking ahead to 2024, Counterpoint analysts predict a more diverse list of manufacturers in the top ten, with at least one Chinese OEM expected to make an appearance. Additionally, the analysts anticipate an increase in the presence of 5G-only devices on the list, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the smartphone market.
