In a move that has left many aspiring filmmakers surprised, acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap has announced he will no longer mentor newcomers for free. Taking to Instagram, Kashyap declared he is “tired of wasting time meeting people” and will now charge a consultancy fee to those seeking his guidance.
Kashyap stated that anyone wanting a 15-minute meeting with him will have to pay Rs 1 lakh, while a 30-minute session will cost Rs 2 lakh. For an hour-long meeting, the filmmaker has set a steep price of Rs 5 lakh. Emphasizing that he is deadly serious, Kashyap bluntly told people – “If you really think you can afford it, call me or stay the f**k away.”
The Gangs of Wasseypur director justified the move saying he has “wasted a lot of time trying to help newcomers and mostly ended up with mediocre s**t.” While the decision has drawn mixed reactions, some feel Kashyap’s frustration with dealing with self-proclaimed “creative geniuses” who don’t deliver is understandable. Whether this pricing structure will deter genuine talent remains to be seen.
