Analysis: Jagan for BC, Naidu for OC

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is going all out to empower the Backward Classes in the state. He had been giving top priority for the BCs ever since he assumed charge as the chief minister of the state.

Out of the five deputy chief ministers that Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed, four of them are from the weaker sections. However, there was only one deputy chief minister during Chandrababu Naidu regime who belonged to the OC communities.

There are 11 BCs in the State cabinet, while there were just 8 BCs in the Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet. There were just two SCs as ministers in the Chandrababu Naidu’s regime while there are five SC Ministers in the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

The speaker of the Assembly was given to a Kamma community during the TDP regime, while the same post was now given to a BC leader. Even the Legislative Council chairman post was given to an SC candidate for the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh.

There were just 18 MLCs representing the SC, ST, BC and Minorities during the TDP regime, while there are 29 MLCs from these communities now. Out of 13 Zilla Parishats, the TDP had given one BC chairman, while the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had nominated 9 ZP chairpersons from the SC, ST, BC and Minorities communities.

Out of 14 Municipal Corporations in the state, the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had given 12 Mayor posts to the SC, ST, BC and Minorities and out of 84 municipalities, 58 municipalities were given to the SC, ST, BC and Minorities during the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had been promoting the leadership from these neglected sections for the past five years. They would also be getting lion’s share in the next round of general election. YSR Congress, thus proves to be the part of the neglected sections.
