Story:
The story starts with YS Rajasekhar Reddy (Mammootty) winning the 2009 AP Elections along with his son, Jagan Mohan Reddy (Jiiva) winning as the member of the parliament. YSR dies in an unfortunate accident, and Jagan decides to console the families of his father’s followers by doing Pada Yatra. However, the high command does not approve his plans and a fight ensures between Jagan and the party. The rest of the story is how Jagan goes against all odds and emerges victorious.
Performances:
Mammootty continued his good work from the first part as he maintained the emotional depth of the character and movie. Jiiva also gave a good performance as Jagan and he exactly displayed few mannerisms of YS Jagan. Ashrita Vemuganti, Suzanne Bernert, Ketaki Narayan, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Sachin Khedekar, Mahesh Manjrekar and others suited well.
Analysis:
The first half of the film concentrates on the emotional bond of YS Rajasekhar Reddy and Jagan along with the after events of the 2009 AP Elections, and the sudden demise of YSR. The second half shows the fight between Jagan and high command and the journey of Jagan until the elections of 2019. While the first half has a bit of commercial touch, the second half gets more serious as the drama takes the front seat.
Positives:
One has to agree that the director of the film, Mahi V Raghav was successful in getting the right star cast for the lead roles. Jiiva and Mammotty were very effective with their performances and lived in the roles of YS Rajasekhar Reddy and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The narrative in the first half is perfect, as the emotions work well along with the elevations of the hero. The initial and the ending parts of the second half also came good.
Negatives:
After a well-built first half, the narrative goes into a flat mode, with some dialogues and scenes getting repetitive. As. there is no major obstacle for the lead character, the emotional impact loses a bit of impact in the middle portions of the second half.
Yatra 2 Movie Verdict:
Yatra 2 is a decently made political drama. Natural performances from Mammootty and Jiiva along with effective dialogues and good first half work for the film, while a bit weaker second half and some repetitive portions work against it. It can be a good one time watch experience for the political genre lovers.
