Will Naidu be able to see the 2024 general election?

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is in jail in the skill development scam. He is there in judicial remand for over 55 days by now.

While his advocates are fighting to bring him out of jail, the state government is filing case after case. The government had filed Amaravati inner ring road case and the fibergrid case. On the other day, the state government also filed a fresh case of liquor scam.

It is alleged that Naidu had favoured a few liquor companies while granting permission to manufacture liquor. It is also alleged that Naidu had relaxed certain norms in granting permission causing financially loss to the state government. The state government lost Rs 1,300 crore every year because of this decision, the CID alleged.

It was alleged that Naidu had granted permission even after the election commission issued notification for fresh elections to the state Assembly in 2019. Several new liquor brands like President Medal, Boom Boom and other brands were permitted to favour the liquor manufacture companies.

The state government headed by Chandrababu Naidu granted permissions and did undue favours to former MP from Nandyala S P Y Reddy, TDP former minister Chinatakayala Ayyannapathrudu and former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu’s family member, Putta Sudhakar Yadav.

The government had withdrawn 8 per cent VAT on total turnover and another 6 per cent tax to these companies.

These charges are major according to a complaint by the AP Beverages Corporation. The charges were framed under Section 409 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It is not going to be easy for Naidu to come out of these cases and face the elections.
