The “Hera Pheri” series, a beloved comedy franchise in Bollywood, has maintained its special place among fans, standing out even among other entertaining series like Dhamaal, Welcome, Munna Bhai, Golmaal, and Housefull. The series, featuring the trio Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, gained a cult following since its inception in 2000. The first film, directed by Priyadarshan, introduced the iconic characters Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Sunil Shetty), and Babu Rao (Paresh Rawal). The sequel, “Phir Hera Pheri,” continued their hilarious escapades and left the door open for a third installment.
After a decade-long wait, “Hera Pheri 3” was officially announced, with Neeraj Vora initially set to direct. However, after Vora’s sudden demise, the film faced uncertainty. The franchise’s dedicated fans were disappointed as multiple directors were considered, causing frustration. Eventually, Farhad Samji took the directorial reins, and the shooting began in February 2023 with the original cast.
Despite a 13-year delay and some fan concerns about the new director, the excitement for “Hera Pheri 3” remains high. Sanjay Dutt has joined the cast, adding to the anticipation. While there have been rumors of potential shelving due to creative differences, Paresh Rawal’s recent statement provides hope, confirming that “Hera Pheri 3” is still in the works, assuring fans that good storytelling is a priority for the franchise.
