Despite Vishal and director Hari’s successful collaborations in films like Bharani and Pooja, their latest venture, Rathnam, failed to make a mark at the box office in both Tamil and Telugu. Given their past successes, this unexpected turn of events has disappointed fans.
The film garnered a variety of reviews from critics and, unfortunately, failed to leave a lasting impression. Rathnam is scheduled to premiere on OTT on May 24. The streaming rights for this action-packed drama belong to Prime Video post its theatrical release. However, an official confirmation from the streaming service is still pending. Priya Bhavani Shankar portrayed the female lead role, while Samuthirakani, Yogibabu, and Gautham Vasudev Menon played significant characters. Produced by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam under the banners of Zee Studios and Stonebench Films, the movie features music composed by Devi Sri Prasad.
Made as an action drama, Rathnam failed to impress the masses and became a failure at the box office. Vishal made great efforts to keep audiences engaged in the film. However, the monotonous storytelling hinders the overall experience most of the time. Additionally, in all of Hari’s previous films, the entertainment value used to be satisfactory, but in Rathnam, it ultimately falls apart. Though the first half is passable, there isn’t a single moment in the film that stands out except for a few sentiment scenes.
