Rana Daggubati, the renowned young actor from the Telugu film industry, played the main villain role in Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan. The film received decent reviews and is having a good performance at the box office. That said, there is a section of audiences who are not satisfied with a few things in the movie, and especially they are not happy with the way director TJ Gnanavel wrote/handled the character of Rana.
The netizens feel that Rana’s character could have been stronger, which could have benefited the entire flow of the film and taken the impact to the next level. Rana Daggubati appears as Nataraj, a ruthless businessman who is selfish and wants to be on top even if it takes him to kill someone. When the character of Nataraj is introduced, one expects a big game between the character and the hero’s character, Athiyan, played by Rajinikanth. However, as said above, audiences feel that the duel between Nataraj and Athiyan is predictable, and it is not much different from regular films as Nataraj is shown just as a bigshot who can hire as many rowdies as he wants and has contacts with politicians. These kinds of elements are known as regular formulaic ones for the Villai characters.
Many compared the character of Nataraj from Vettaiyan with Neelambari (Ramyakrishna), Mark Antony (Raghuvaran), Haridev Abhyankar (Nana Patekar), and Varma (Vinayakan), the other villain characters of Rajini’s previous movies. However, doing a main antagonist role in Rajinikanth’s film has definitely placed Rana’s reach to more wider audiences. Let’s hope that he receives more strong and versatile characters
