Vetrimaaran, the mastermind behind the critically acclaimed Viduthalai, is gearing up for a triumphant return to the silver screen with its highly anticipated sequel. This time, the movie features the dynamic duo of Vijay Sethupathi and Soori in pivotal roles. The film, which has been in the works for a while, is now set to make a splash with a grand theatrical release during the festive Deepavali season in 2024. This means that Vetrimaaran’s creation will be vying for attention alongside Suriya’s fantasy action flick Kanguva and Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi.
According to the latest reports, Viduthalai Part 2 is scheduled to be released in cinemas during the last week of October 2024 as a special Deepavali treat. For those unaware, hit theaters, the much-awaited film directed by Vetrimaaran had its global debut at the 53rd International Film Festival of Rotterdam in January 2024. Nevertheless, the director and his team have already announced that the period crime thriller will hit the theaters only in the latter half of 2024. The upcoming release of the Soori-Vijay Sethupathi film alongside Suriya’s Kanguva and Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi during the Deepavali season is anticipated to bring excitement to Tamil cinema. After a lackluster 2024 in terms of box office hits, the industry is poised for a revival in the latter part of the year, with several major films scheduled for release. Despite this, their respective producers have not confirmed the official release dates for Viduthalai Part 2, Kanguva, and Vidaamuyarchi.
Soori, who is portraying Constable Kathiresan in Viduthalai, will reprise his role in the sequel. Vijay Sethupathi, who played Perumal Vaathiyar in the first film, will have a significant role in Viduthalai Part 2. Manju Warrier will be seen as Perumal’s wife. The familiar faces from the original movie, such as Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bhavani Sre, Attakathi Dinesh, Rajiv Menon, Ilavarasu, Balaji Sakthivel, and others, will be returning to play their respective characters. The renowned musician Ilaiyaraaja has composed the songs and original score for Viduthalai Part 2. R Velraj serves as the director of photography.
