Turbo Sequel to start soon?

Turbo, the action thriller starring Mammootty, had a massive global release on May 23, 2024. Directed by hitmaker Vysakh, the movie is off to an excellent start at the box office, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics. Interestingly, the makers of Turbo are already planning a sequel to the Mammootty starrer, which is on its way to earning blockbuster status. Along with the megastar, another Malayalam superstar is expected to join the franchise in the second part. If you have not watched the film yet, please avoid reading this article, as it contains a few spoilers.

The action-comedy film, which saw Mammootty and director Vysakh teaming up again, teases a potential sequel in its closing credits. The conclusion of Turbo hints at the expansion of a new cinematic universe, not limited to just the megastar’s films but also involving other prominent actors from the Malayalam film industry. Recent updates indicate that the sequel is in the works. If all goes according to plan, Turbo 2 could begin production after Vysakh completes his upcoming project Khalifa, featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead. Filming for the sequel is projected to commence by the conclusion of 2024. There has been a strong inside buzz indicating that Mohanlal, another superstar in the Malayalam film industry, is in talks to star in the next installment of the Turbo franchise, alongside Mammootty. If this hearsay is accurate, it could signify a reunion of the two renowned actors, often called the ‘Big M’s of Malayalam cinema, after a considerable hiatus. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding this speculation at present.

Nevertheless, the fans of Mammootty remain skeptical about the conclusion of Turbo’s story in the latest installment. This skepticism arises from the fact that Vysakh’s previous hit film, Madhura Raja, also left room for a potential sequel. However, the anticipated third installment of the ‘Raja’ franchise, titled Minister Raja, has yet to come to fruition. Therefore, movie enthusiasts argue that expecting Turbo Jose’s comeback on the silver screen is premature.
