Aanand L. Rai, the renowned Bollywood director, is having a good time as a producer as well. Known for films like Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhana, Aanand has also produced some well-acclaimed films, and Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad (2018) was one among them. The folk horror film was re-released in theaters on September 13, 2024. Surprisingly, Tumbbad received a super response, and it also collected more numbers than its initial release as audiences loved it.
In a latest interview, Aanand L Rai was asked about the response to the Tumbbad re-release, and the director said that he is overwhelmed by the response to the film. The director felt happy that a well-told story has found the takers even six years after the original release. Though the film did not make noise when it was released in theaters in 2018 (became much more popular after the OTT release), Anand said that he feels happy for the actor, director of Tumbbad. He added that though the positive response from the viewers was late, it is fine for him.
Tumbbad’s sequel was recently announced, and Aanand L Rai stated it will require a lot of hard work to set it right as the first part has received such a stunning response. The filmmaker also cited his own experience when he made Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
