Tobey Maguire’s Back to Finish the Unfinished Business?

Tobey Maguire’s Back to Finish the Unfinished Business?

It’s hard to believe nearly 15 years have passed since Tobey Maguire last suited up as Spider-Man in 2007’s Spider-Man 3. While that film seemed to wrap up Peter Parker’s story, fans later learned that director Sam Raimi actually had extensive plans for a fourth installment before exiting the project. Raimi has now opened up about his unfinished business with the original wall-crawler trilogy.

In recent interviews, Raimi admitted he is “completely open” to potentially returning for a belated Spider-Man 4 with Maguire back in the iconic role. He even revealed tidbits of what that sequel could have entailed, with an army of Spidey villains like Vulture, Black Cat, The Lizard, and possibly even Mysterio set to plague our hero. Raimi had been so committed to the fourth film that tie-in video games and action figures were already in development before its abrupt cancellation.

Now that the multiverse has blown wide open in projects like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2, Raimi acknowledges basically “anything is possible” regarding a Maguire comeback. But whether such a return would take the form of a direct Spider-Man 4 sequel or appearance in another Marvel movie remains a mystery. Still, it’s intriguing to imagine what loose ends from Raimi’s trilogy could still be tied up for longtime fans. And Maguire swinging back into action isn’t hard to picture after the epic multiverse team up in No Way Home.
