The Railway Children is the debut film of Kannada filmmaker Prithvi Konanur. The movie won the Silver Lotus Award for Best Child Actor in 2017, and it also got good appreciation in film festivals. However, the theatrical run of the film was not great. The Railway Children has not l been made available on any digital platform until now. After getting rejected from popular OTT platforms, Prithvi Konnur has decided to take it to audiences by himself.
On August 15, Prithvi is releasing two of his films on his YouTube channel. Yes, on Independence Day, Railway Children and his more recent Hadinelentu will be available to stream for free. The filmmaker took to social media and explained that OTT platforms are not willing to take his films, and they are not much interested in watching them, even though his films have got rave reviews. Prithvi stated that the OTT platforms think that his films are not commercially viable. The two films of Prithvi Konanur have different stories. Hadinelentu is about a sex video going viral, involving two teenagers, and how society reacts to this incident and how the are issues of class and caste involved in this whole scenario.
Railway Children presents the story of two runaway boys, Raju (Parimala) and Jollu (Manohara), who are employed by a local criminal gang to work near the railway station and tracks. The movie demonstrates what problems do homeless kids encounter in their life. Manohara, who played Jollu won the National Award for Best Child Actor for his performance in the film. The film was inspired by real-life experiences documented by the NGO Sathi and a research book called Rescuing Railway Children.
