The Kerala Story’s Television Premiere has been opposed by Kerala CM

The Kerala Story, a film that sparked controversy, achieved tremendous success at the box office by earning approximately 240 crores nett. Despite no OTT platform stepping forward to acquire its digital rights, the film premiered on the ZEE5 platform after several months and garnered an exceptional viewership. That showed that no matter how many controversies surround a film, if the content clicks with the audience, then no one can stop it.

The movie is scheduled to make its television debut tonight on Doordarshan channel at 8 PM. This decision has sparked controversy with the Kerala state government. Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan criticized Doordarshan for choosing to broadcast the film. He expressed his disapproval on Twitter, stating, “The national news broadcaster should not be a tool for propaganda by the BJP-RSS alliance and should refrain from airing a movie that only serves to escalate communal tensions before the general elections.”

For those unfamiliar with the film, it is reportedly based on actual events where numerous Hindu women were allegedly converted to Islam by force and recruited into ISIS. The Kerala government had previously tried to prevent the film from being shown in cinemas. “The Kerala Story” features Yogita Bihani, Sonia Balani, Siddhi Idnani, Devadarshini, and Vijay Krishna in significant roles. Sudipto Sen is credited as the writer and director of this production, which Vipul Amrutlal Shah financed.
