Recently, the preview for the forthcoming action comedy heist thriller, The Instigators, was unveiled, accompanied by the announcement of its release date. Directed by Doug Liman and featuring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck in the leading roles, this film will be available on Apple TV+ starting from August 9th.
Damon, known as Rory in The Instigators, is an ex-marine burdened with significant financial troubles, including a mortgage and overdue child support. In order to alleviate their financial woes, Rory teams up with Cobby, a former convict portrayed by Affleck, to steal money from the mayor during an election night party. Although they successfully accomplish their mission, they find themselves pursued by both the police and the henchmen of a corrupt politician. Rory acknowledges, “Everyone in New England is on our tail.” According to the official synopsis, as they find themselves out of their depth, Rory and Cobby convince Rory’s therapist, played by Hong Chau, to join them in a chaotic escape through the city. In this thrilling journey, they must set aside their differences and collaborate to avoid capture or even worse consequences.
Chuck Maclean and Affleck have written The Instigators, which features an ensemble cast including Hong Chau, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, Toby Jones, Jack Harlow, and Ron Perlman. The film is scheduled to have a limited theatrical release in the United States on August 9, followed by a worldwide release on Apple TV+ a week later. In the meantime, the streamer’s future lineup of content is improving with each passing day. This week, viewers were treated to the release of the first two episodes of Presumed Innocent, featuring the talented Jake Gyllenhaal.
