The 17th Season of IPL to Kick Off in Chennai on March 22

The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to commence in Chennai on March 22, as confirmed by multiple officials associated with the IPL. IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal informed that the league will begin in Chennai, with an inaugural ceremony planned before the match. Kasi Viswanathan, CEO of the Chennai Super Kings franchise, revealed that Chennai has the honor of hosting the inaugural event due to being the defending champions.

While traditionally, the opening match features the finalists of the previous season, it’s still unclear if the March 22 contest will follow this practice. Dhumal mentioned that the IPL will release a partial schedule in the next couple of days, with the full schedule to follow after the Election Commission of India announces the General Election dates. The IPL is expected to conclude on May 26, and Dhumal expressed confidence that the league will not have to be moved out of the country to avoid clashes with the elections.
