Thangalaan is the latest period action drama directed by Pa Ranjith and has Chiyaan Vikram as the lead. The film was released in theaters on August 15th and received average responses from both audiences and critics. While a section of viewers praised Vikram’s performances and Pa Ranjith’s taking, the other section found the film to be boring. The news about the film’s OTT release is doing rounds in the industry circles now.
According to reports, Netflix, the OTT giant, has bagged Thangalaan’s digital rights and will stream the film in major Indian languages, including Hindi. The inside rumors have it that Thangalaan will be available for streaming from September 20, 2024, but the catch here is that the Hindi version will have its digital premiere date following a short gap. Netflix and the film’s producers will officially announce this soon.
Besides Chiyaan Vikram, Thangalaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, and Daniel Caltagirone. Studio Green and Neelam Productions produced the film, while GV Prakash Kumar composed the music. The film tells a fictional tale about the Kolar Gold Fields, inspired by a few real events. A collective group of villagers takes the job of finding the gold for the British, unbeknownst to the evil intentions of their owner, and they also have to fight with a mysterious Snake Spirit Clan, who are said to be the guardians of the gold and the lands.
