Thangalaan: Pa Ranjith and Chiyaan Vikram’s Period Drama Completes its Censor Formalities

Thangalaan, the Tamil movie featuring Vikram in the leading role, has officially announced August 15 as its release date to take advantage of the Independence Day weekend. Directed and written by Pa Ranjith, the film has successfully undergone the censor process and is now preparing for its release in the upcoming weeks.

Thangalaan, a highly anticipated Tamil film of the year, features actor Vikram in the lead role and is set to release on August 15. Recent reports confirm that the film has successfully completed the censor formalities and has been awarded a U/A certificate by the Censor Board, making it suitable for audiences of all ages. The film is expected to run for approximately two hours and 43 minutes. Thangalaan is a period action drama that unfolds during the British colonial era, boasting a star-studded cast including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, British actor Daniel Caltagirone, and others. Parvathy will portray the character of Vikram’s wife, Gangamma, while Malavika will take on the role of Aarathi, a mysterious sorceress.

The movie will delve into the history of the Kolar Gold Fields, its inception, and the individuals linked to the location in its early days. Supported by Studio Green, Jio Cinemas, and Neelam Productions, this film is among the highly anticipated projects in Tamil cinema for the current year. Thangalaan features music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, marking Vikram’s 61st film as the lead actor. Tamil Praba is the film’s co-writer, and cinematographer Kishor Kumar handles the camera work. Selva RK is responsible for the edits. The film was shot in various locations, including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Madurai, and Karnataka. Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical rights for the film. Thangalaan will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film will compete at the box office with Keerthy Suresh-starrer Raghu Thatha, Prashanth’s Andhagan, and the horror thriller Demonte Colony 2.
