Chiyaan Vikram and Pa Ranjth’s Period Drama Thangalaan has completed ten days at the box office. Though the film opened to mixed reviews, it gathered good numbers on the opening day and continued to perform the same till the weekend. However, Thangalaan dropped heavily from Monday, and since then, it has been gathering minimal numbers at the box office. The film was released on August 15, 2024, after several postponements.
Thangalaan gathered nearly 33 crores gross in Tamil Nadu, 8 crores gross in Telugu states, 3.7 crores gross in Karnataka, just over 3 crore gross in Kerala, and overseas gross will be just over 14 crores as the film did not add much to its total in the second weekend. So for ten days, Thangaalan collected 62 crore gross at the worldwide box office. Though the Telugu dubbed version of the film was a success, overall, Thangalaan turned out to be a failure at the box office.
Directed by Pa Ranjith, Thangalaan is set in 1850 CE in Veppur village of North Arcot. GV Prakash Kumar composed the film’s music, and his background score for a few scenes is getting appreciation from audiences. Besides Vikram, Thangaaan also stars Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan in crucial roles. Malavika surprised everyone with her performance, as she had never acted with such an intense character in her career and was only known for her glamorous photoshoots.
