TDP facing big trouble in Kovvur segment

The opposition TDP is having big trouble in the Kovvuru Assembly segment of East Godavari district. The party is divided into two groups – one supporting the former MLA and Minister K S Jawahar and the other opposing him.

The two groups are holding meetings across the constituency though there is no clarity from the party high command on who would get the party ticket. While Jawahar is going ahead with the campaign in the constituency in his own style. He is putting up flexies and banners across the constituency in his support.

Even the former minister’s supporters are campaigning in the segment and claim that party chief N Chandrababu Naidu had cleared the candidature of Jawahar. They are celebrating the occasion with banners all over the constituency. Even Jawahar as the party president of the East Godavari district unit is also touring the constituency in his support.

However, there is another group headed by Jonnalagadda Subbaraya Chowdary and Kantamaneni Ramakrishna are leading the rival group in the segment. They are promoting former MLA Muppidi Venkateswara Rao, who has already started touring the segment.

Jawahar’s camp lacks the presence of senior leaders from the constituency. Only a handful of young leaders are supporting Jawahar, while the rest are with Venkateswara Rao. Subbaraya Chowdary and Ramakrishna are holding command over the constituency, and they are backing Venkateswara Rao.

Venkateswara Rao’s group had declared that party chief Chandrababu Naidu had given them green signal and had promised the party ticket to him. They are reaching out to the village level leaders across the constituency and meeting them.

Even Jawahar is confident of the party giving him ticket. He is going to the people telling them that Chandrababu Naidu had promised ticket to him. There is a lot of confusion over the party ticket in the constituency with the two groups staking claim. The cadre and the voters are in a state of confusion with the two groups claiming it.

It is to be seen how Chandrababu Naidu would settle the disputes in the constituency and select the candidate for the coming general election.
