Switch Case N is out on OTT, but there is a twist

Switch Case N, a Kannada movie created by a tech professional, sheds light on the challenges encountered by individuals in the IT sector and was released in cinemas slightly over a month ago. The movie, helmed by Chetan Kumar and starring Vijay Suriya from the popular show Agnisakshi, is now accessible on OTT platforms. However, similar to recent trends, it is currently only available on a TVOD (transactional video on demand) basis. Switch Case N was added to Amazon Prime Video towards the end of June 28, but it can only be rented from the store. The rental price for the film is Rs 349.

Chetan Kumar, the director, based the film’s narrative on his own personal encounters to depict the journey of an IT expert dealing with the stresses of meeting deadlines, office dynamics, and more, all in his quest for acknowledgment. The cast includes Shwetha Vijaykumar, Raja Balwadi, Santhosh Karki, and several up-and-coming talents. In a previous interview with the media, Shachina Heggar, the creator of Flat Curve Studio, a platform that aggregates content for OTTs, had expressed her belief in the potential of the TVOD model. She sees it becoming the predominant model for most cinema and the true indicator of the audience for Kannada cinema. However, Switch {n case’s Rs 349 price point is quite high, especially considering that most Kannada films are priced in the Rs 99-Rs 149 range on the platform. Only early access rates for popular films reach as high as Rs 349. Given that Kannada audiences are reluctant to pay for content, TVOD is not effective, as evidenced by director Pawan Kumar’s recent experience with his film Dhoomam, which garnered 19L views once it was made available for free on YouTube after months on Apple and Google’s TVOD. Meanwhile, Switch {n case has already been pirated and is available on major piracy channels.

In the meantime, Vijay, the actor portraying the main character in the Telugu show Krishnamma Kalipindi Iddarini, decided to adopt the name Vijay Lalitaa Suriya, which includes his mother’s name as well, as a gesture of appreciation towards her.
