In addition to Kunal Kemmu’s Madgaon Express, the film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, starring Randeep Hooda, was released in theaters yesterday. Regrettably, the movie has not achieved the anticipated level of success. Early Box Office reports show it has generated significantly less revenue than Madgaon Express. Although the film predominantly features the Marathi language, it has garnered a decent collection for the language. However, it still needs to sustain its performance to attain blockbuster status.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar grossed Rs. 1.15 crores on its first day, as reported by Sacnilk.com. The movie’s box office performance must catch up to Madgaon Express, which is not considered a high benchmark. Nevertheless, the numbers are quite respectable for a regional film. According to the report, Kunal Kemmu’s first film as a director, Madgaon Express, garnered Rs. 1.5 crores on its opening day. However, the movie had a relatively sluggish start in contrast to recent theatrical releases.
Madgaon Express is performing strongly in Mumbai’s Thane district, followed by Pune. On the other hand, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, starring Ankita Lokhande, is excelling in Maharashtra. Surprisingly, it is outperforming Madgaon Express in most parts of Maharashtra. Both of the films are resonating with audiences in Northern India. This is especially true for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, given that it is a Marathi film. Apart from Bangalore, the movie may need help finding an audience. Madgaon Express, with its storyline set in Goa, is already gaining traction in Maharashtra and Gujarat and could attract audiences in the southern region of India if positive word-of-mouth spreads. Despite this, both films are experiencing poor openings and need more hope for success. However, the upcoming weekends will provide a clearer insight into audience preferences.
