Suresh Babu talks about the reasons behind Theaters Shutdown

It is widely known that the Single Screens in Hyderabad have been closed for 10 Days from May 15th. The Producers Council recently criticized the closure of only a limited number of single-screen theaters, asserting that most theaters still operate successfully. However, during an interview, senior producer Suresh Babu expressed his belief that shutting down theaters is inevitable due to the significant decline in audience attendance.

Suresh Babu mentioned that in the past, theaters used to attract large crowds during the Summer season due to the air conditioning and the opportunity to escape the intense heat. However, the current situation is different. With OTT platforms providing a wide range of content and audiences preferring only top-rated films and star-studded blockbusters on the big screen, theater attendance has decreased. Suresh Babu suggested that theaters should be repurposed for weddings or converted into real estate projects, as limited options are available. He also pointed out that smaller films are struggling to attract audiences, and even dubbed films are not helping theaters stay afloat at this time. Nevertheless, Suresh Babu expressed skepticism about screening IPL matches in theaters during evening times to attract an audience. He pointed out that audiences can easily watch IPL on their mobile devices for free, making it unlikely for them to purchase tickets and attend theater screenings. In essence, Suresh Babu firmly stated that the emergence of OTT platforms has already negatively impacted single screens, and even the screening of IPL matches would not significantly assist theaters.

The producer emphasizes that moving forward, only thematic films based on content will be successful, and our filmmakers must concentrate on them. Additionally, they should extensively promote the movie on digital platforms to ensure that audiences will be drawn to the theaters.
