Akshay Kumar, who previously failed to impress audiences in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, is now in the spotlight for his latest film, Sarfira, where he teams up with Paresh Rawal for the first time. Sudha Kongara directed Sarfira, the official Bollywood adaptation of the Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru, which starred Suriya. Along with Paresh Rawal and Seema Biswas, Sarfira received positive reviews from critics, highlighting its strong points and a slightly mixed response upon its release, indicating areas for improvement. The film collected 7 Crores net for two days in India.
Sarfira, an adaptation of G. R. Gopinath’s memoir Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, has captured attention with its inspiring story and the chemistry between Akshay and Radhika. Despite creating a lot of buzz, the film started slowly at the box office. Box office trackers reported that Sarfira made an opening day collection of Rs 2.5 crores. The film experienced a surge of over 70% in attendance on the second day (first Saturday), earning Rs 4.5 crores and bringing the total collections to Rs 7 crores. Despite facing tough competition from Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s movie Kalki 2898 AD, Sarfira has set a new record at the box office. It has been reported that Sarfira has achieved Radhika Madan’s highest second-day earnings, and it will be intriguing to observe its performance in the upcoming days.
In the meantime, discussing Sarfira, Akshay stated, “This marks my 150th film, and it stands as my finest work. I am deeply grateful to Sudha for entrusting me with this project and allowing me to be a part of it.” He complimented his co-star Radhika, emphasizing, “This is the most outstanding performance I have witnessed. I am unsure of your opinions, but she has portrayed the role flawlessly. Despite not being Maharashtrian, she has embodied the character effortlessly. Her diction was impeccable, and she dedicated herself to mastering Marathi language and dialogue. That is the level of commitment she has shown.”
